Sand Valley With Non-Golfers: What to Do in Rome, WI

5 min read

Homes in this post

Half the Rome Collective bookings are golfers; the other half are families and couples where one person golfs and one doesn't. Rome handles both. Here's what to do when you're not on the course.

On the water

Five lakes within fifteen minutes: Camelot, Sherwood, Arrowhead, Petenwell, and Castle Rock. Rent a pontoon for the day on Arrowhead, paddleboard the quieter Camelot coves, or take the kids to the swim beach at Lake Sherwood.

Trails and parks

Roche-A-Cri State Park has a 300-step climb to a sandstone bluff with Native American petroglyphs at the base, easy half-day. Dyracuse Recreation Area is the local UTV/ATV park; rentals available nearby. In winter, the trail system flips to snowmobiles.

Day trips

Wisconsin Dells is 35 minutes south for waterparks and the Ducks. Wisconsin Rapids is 20 minutes north for groceries, coffee, and the cranberry country drive. Stevens Point and Point Brewery are an hour north for a long lunch.

At the house

Most Rome Collective rentals have a hot tub, a fire pit, kayaks or paddleboards on the lakefront homes, and enough space that a quiet morning with coffee on the deck is genuinely the best part of the trip.
