Sand Valley plays differently than most resort golf, wind, sand, big elevation, and weather that can move 25 degrees between 8 AM and 5 PM. After hosting a lot of groups, here's the list that consistently shows up.
Clothing
Two pairs of golf shoes (one always drying), a lightweight rain shell, a wind vest, a quarter-zip pullover, gloves in two sizes for sweaty days, and a brimmed hat plus a beanie. The dunes are exposed, a windbreaker matters more than a heavy jacket.
On-course gear
Soft spikes (mandatory), extra socks, sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, a small towel, and a flask of your beverage of choice for The Sandbox. Range finders are useful at Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes; less so at The Lido, where the caddie does the work.
House gear
Slip-on shoes for the porch, swim trunks if your rental has a hot tub or lake access, a Yeti or cooler for the cart, and whatever group ritual gear you bring, speakers, cigars, cards. The kitchen is stocked; cooking ingredients are not.
