Planning a Wisconsin Golf Buddy Trip

The hard part of a buddy trip is not the golf, it's the logistics. Here's the playbook we share with groups planning their first Sand Valley trip.

1. Lock the house first, then tee times

Homes near Sand Valley fill faster than tee times do. Pick your weekend, book the rental, then chase tee times in the 60-day window. If you flip the order you end up driving from a hotel 45 minutes away.

2. Right-size the group

8 golfers is the sweet spot, two foursomes, one big house, one cart-load of clubs. 10 to 12 also works in our larger rentals; past 12 you're managing logistics instead of enjoying the trip. Multiple homes side-by-side handles 16 to 24 comfortably.

3. Plan the rotation

Classic 4-day rotation: Mammoth Dunes Thursday, Sand Valley Friday, The Lido Saturday morning, Sedge Valley Saturday afternoon, The Sandbox Sunday for the drive home. Adjust around your tee-time draw.

4. Money and food

One person collects up front for the house and tee times; everyone Venmos in. Cook one big breakfast at the house each morning (cheaper, faster, and keeps the group together). Dinners out are the right place to spend.

5. Get the small things right

Cooler in the cart, a speaker for the porch, someone in charge of the music, and a non-golf bailout for anyone who tweaks a back on day one. The trip is about the group; the courses are the backdrop.
