Best Time of Year to Play Sand Valley

Sand Valley's season runs roughly mid-April through early November, but not every month plays the same. The dunes drain fast, the wind shifts, and the resort's six courses each reward a different kind of weather. Here's how to pick your window.

Late spring (mid-April to mid-June)

Cool mornings, firm fairways, and the easiest tee-time availability of the year. Mammoth Dunes and Sedge Valley play long off the cold ground; The Lido is at its most receptive. Pack layers: 45° at the first tee and 70° by lunch is normal.

Peak summer (mid-June through August)

The classic Sand Valley trip. Long days mean 36-hole stretches are realistic, the courses are firm and running, and The Sandbox at sunset becomes a ritual. Book tee times the day the 60-day window opens or you'll lose weekend slots.

Fall (September to early November)

Most pros pick this window. Cooler air, smaller crowds, color in the pines, and conditions at their crispest. Rental rates also soften after Labor Day, meaningful if you're spreading a group across a four-night trip.

Off-season (November to April)

Sand Valley closes, but the Rome lakes don't. Many groups still book a Rome Collective home for snowmobiling, ice fishing, or a quiet long weekend at a lower nightly rate.
